Losing my Blogging Virginity

Kim Kardashian said, “Get your fucking ass up and work.” And I listened.

Hello friends, blog junkies, and mom! Welcome to my first blog post. You’re probably not sure what to expect here, and honestly neither am I. But let’s not get too existential until I introduce myself.

You probably could’ve guessed it by now, but I am Tessa! I am an artist, creative, storyteller, writer, yogi, and scooterer, among many other things. I went to NYU to study musical theatre and ended up liking Film/TV ten times more. But don't get me wrong, I love a little show tune. In college, this one girl called me a "closeted theatre kid." I'm not sure if that was supposed to be an insult, but honey I'm totally out and proud — check out these pictures of young me if you don't believe it. Goddamn, am I cute or what!

I currently live in LA and am doing the "actor thing." My days consist of teaching yoga, auditioning, working odd jobs, and contemplating if this is the right career path for me. I’m an ENFJ and triple Aries (scary, I know) who likes writing silly stories, testing TikTok recipes, and standing on my head in my free time. And above all, I am quite the loquacious lady.

Any person who knows me in real life can attest that I love to talk. Sometimes to a fault. When I played Fonso, the dancing waiter, in my middle school’s production of Hello Dolly! I was convinced the director was out for my blood. I swear that is how I remember it. But for some reason or another, every other kid in the cast seemed to think it was because I, “talked too much.” Details, details!

Here are some pictures from said production. Iconic.

Point being, I have a lot to say. Thus, my blog.

Tessa Likes To Talk is:

  • Open-minded

  • Honest

  • Light-hearted

  • Relatable (hopefully)

  • The big sister you never had

  • A clusterfuck of thoughts you didn’t ask for

No topic is off limits: therapy, auditioning, yoga, pop culture, #girlythings, food recs, you name it! Mostly whatever I find entertaining at the moment. It’s my blog, damnit!

As a twenty-something who has worked an innumerable amount of odd jobs, I’ve gained a unique perspective on being an adult (and I use that word very loosely). Most of my friends work their hip corporate jobs with 401k, while I spend my days videoing myself saying “It's the best leak protection ever!” 16 times for a Tampax audition.

Choosing my hobby/passion/soul food as a career is such a privilege, and I feel so incredibly grateful for the opportunities and people who have helped get me this far. That being said, this life path is no walk in the park. Constantly facing rejection, praying for that big audition, the next paycheck, someone to freaking notice you and put you on HBO already— is tough. But here’s the thing: even though I haven't had my big La La Land moment yet, each kooky job, audition, and experience has taught me lessons that extend far beyond my career. It's these moments in-between, the little snippets of life that come before our highest high and after our lowest low that illuminate what it truly means to be human.

It's these moments in-between, the little snippets of life that come before our highest high and after our lowest low that illuminate what it truly means to be human.

And right now, I'm living in the in-between.

While it’d be easier to just sit on the couch and bitch and moan about how I want to be a series regular, *finally* delete Hinge, cure my anxiety, and have thicker eyebrows, here's MY work. My blog is a commitment to myself to indulge in life's in-betweens. An opportunity to dedicate time in my week to reflect, ramble, and share a thing or two with any of you out there who are willing to read.

So here I go. Welcome to my life and welcome to the blog. Kim, I have gotten my ass up and I am ready to fucking WORK!

Xo, Tessa

Oh, P.S. This should go without saying, but I am no expert. Nothing here is peer-reviewed, science-backed, or maybe even funny to you. I’m just a random girl clanking away on the keys of my MacBook with some thoughts, ideas & stories that could perhaps be of some value (or entertainment) to you. Take everything I say with a grain of salt. Or don't, it is your life so do what you want.

This is me is 2019. My hair is no longer purple and I have since graduated out of Invisalign, but the vibes remain the same.
